There is very little I can say about this episode. I think it’s probably quite good, but all my thoughts about it are taken up by “uuuuuuuurgh gags”. I’m happy that we (eventually) arrived at a point where they’re fairly well dealt with – thanks to HeatMetal for his invaluable assistance in this matter.
Enjoy the ep! I’ll make a few notes about it after the cut.
So. We’ve talked a little about owarai (Japanese TV comedy) and manzai (the two-man style of owarai where one person plays the fool and the other corrects him – think Abbott and Costello) previously. However, this ep really goes all out on it. Manzai does, as I’ve mentioned, have particularly strong connotations of being from the Kansai region (Kyoto and Osaka, which is where Michie is from). Osaka used to be known as Naniwa, hence the sweets shop’s name.
Michie’s always spoken with an Osakan dialect, and I’ve tried starting this ep to represent that a bit better. It’s particularly notable as when he’s doing the manzai routine, Kakeru also adopts this dialect to a degree.
