[H-S] Gyrozetter 29 August 4, 2013Posted by makhazol in gyrozetter.
You’re rather lucky. I’ve had a good week, so you get another episode of Gyrozetter already. Although it helps that we’re in a stretch of really good eps.
cultural whitewashing translation note follows.
At the end of this episode, Xenon’s next giant Gyrozetter is mentioned briefly. In the Japanese, it’s named ‘Daikongo’. ‘Dai’ is simply large, great, big or something like that, but ‘Kongo’ refers to a thing in certain Eastern spiritualities that represents the properties of both diamond/adamantine (being indestructible) and a thunderbolt (unstoppable force). It’s slightly better known by its Sanskrit name: Vajra.
I considered leaving it as is, but I felt the connotations the name had in Japanese would be lost. I ended up calling it ‘Adamant Titan’, to try and best convey the name’s feeling – that this is something really big, really tough and really strong.
